Reef Care, Made Simpler
Whether you're setting up your first reef tank or trying to better understand coral care, this space is here to help you build a healthier, more stable reef one concept at a time.
Learn the Basics of Reef Success
What is a reef aquarium?
A reef aquarium is a living ecosystem in a glass box β one that mimics the chemistry, flow, and biology of a natural coral reef. Unlike a freshwater tank, reef systems require careful management of specific water parameters to keep corals, fish, and invertebrates thriving together. The good news: once you understand the fundamentals, the rest becomes a rewarding rhythm.
Reef-keeping can feel overwhelming, but the basics are learnable. Focus on these core pillars to build a foundation for a thriving aquarium.
Core water parameters
These are the numbers every reef keeper learns to test and maintain consistently.
Stability is King
Corals thrive in consistency. Sudden changes in temperature, salinity, or chemistry are the primary cause of stress. Focus on small, repeatable habits.
Clean, Not Sterile
Balanced nutrients (Nitrate and Phosphate) are essential for coral health. Aim for stability rather than chasing "zero" readings.
The Power of Flow
Water movement brings food and carries away waste. Random, turbulent flow is generally better than a single direct blast.
Proper Spectrum
Corals are photosynthetic. Providing the right PAR (intensity) and actinic spectrum is vital for their survival and vibrant colors.
Feeding Habits
While corals get energy from light, supplemental feeding of amino acids and particulates can drastically improve growth and health.
Patience & Observation
The best thing you can do for your reef is often nothing. Observe your tank daily. Good things happen slowly, bad things happen fast.
